Positive Play Initiative in Derbyshire Schools What is Positive Play/Positive Support? The positive play programme (sometimes referred to as ‘positive support' in secondary schools) is a structured programme which enables staff in schools to support children and young people who have low self-esteem or social, emotional and/or behavioural issues to engage with their personal feelings. This can help to raise their self esteem and to support them in all aspects of their lives. Staff are able to train to work in one-to-one or small group situations with children and young people of all ages. What are the benefits? Pupils are helped to understand their feelings and emotions and are supported in self expression through play and game situations. This proves highly effective in raising self-esteem. Once self-esteem is raised, pupils are able to face and to cope with aspects of their lives which were previously challenging and to achieve their potential.
