We opened in May 1987 with a grant from the Community Education Department of Derbyshire County Council. It is independant, run by two workers and any volunteers who are interested. It is situated in the community room in the Gamesley Early Excellence Centre. What is a Toy Library? Children learn through play. Play the work of a child. The right play material is not only enjoyable but also encourages a child's development. Good educational toys can teach and develop new skill, encourage imagination and language. But good toys are often expensive. Parents may not be able to buy all the toys they would like or hesitate to do so in case their child does not enjoy them. We fund the toy library through grants and fundraising. We are members of The National Association of Toy & Leisure Libraries & Derbyshire Toy Library Network. Care of Toys You will recieve your toy in a durable bag. It would help us if youcould make sure that both the bag and the toys are returned complete and in a clean condition. If the Toys are damaged or not returned, you will be asked to contributesome money towards a replacement. The amount will depend on the price of the toy. When we buy new toys we fully involve parants and make the choices together. Have you any ideas or suggestions for our Toy Library We are especially interested inyour opinion on the following:- - The type, age range and durability of toys in the library
- The administration of the toy library
- Any toys you would like us to buy
Gamesley Early Excellence Centre Toy Libraries have:- A child protection policy
- Staff trained in child protection
- Staff who have a satisfactory disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau
